South Hamilton volleyball splits tri match at Saydel

DES MOINES — The South Hamilton Hawks volleyball team returned to action on Monday night, as they made the drive to Des Moines to take on the Saydel Eagles and Nevada Cubs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Saydel High School. South Hamilton entered at 7-8, Saydel entered at 1-3 and Nevada entered at 7-4 and ranked #15 in Class 4A.

Monday’s first match with Saydel would not be a conference match and was played to a best-of-3 match, as South Hamilton rallied with a 9-0 run late in the set to capture a 25-20 win. The Hawks the dominated the 2nd set en route to a 25-12 win and a 2-0 sweep.

South Hamilton then took on (4A) #15 Nevada in their first sanctioned HOIAC match of the year, as Nevada would sweep the Hawks 3-0 with sets of 25-17, 25-17 and 25-13.

Tessa Skartvedt was the KQWC Player of the Game, combining for 10 kills and 7 aces in the 2 matches on Monday. Fiona Rott finished with 6 kills, while Claire Hewitt had 4 kills and 5 aces.

South Hamilton volleyball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Perry for the Perry Tournament, beginning at 4 PM.
