A Webster City man has been identified as the passenger who died Sunday night in a one car crash in rural Wright County. The Iowa State Patrol identified the victim as 36-year-old Michael Mendez Mendez. Mendez was a passenger in a 2009 model Chevrolet Cobalt driven by Antoni Castanon Coronado with his address unknown. The accident happened on Wright County R-38 eight miles south of Clarion. The Coronado car was traveling south when the car’s passenger side dropped off the edge of the roadway. The driver overcorrected, causing the loss of control. It then struck a utility pole entering a cornfield. The car then caught fire. Mendez was pronounced dead at the accident scene. Coronado and another passenger Josue Castanon Coronado were both transported to a hospital for treatment of their injuries. The fire and ambulance departments of Clarion and Eagle assisted at the accident scene Sunday night.
