Eagle Grove basketball swept on the road by Bishop Garrigan

The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip into Kossuth County to take on Golden Bears of Bishop Garrigan in Top of Iowa West action in Algona. The Eagle girls came in at 0-12, while the Eagle boys entered at 7-4.

Eagle Grove’s girls faced a daunting task of the 7th-ranked team in Class 1A, but held their own in the first quarter, trailing just 13-6. However, Bishop Garrigan turned the offense on in the 2nd quarter, putting up 22 points to take a 35-16 halftime lead. The Golden Bears defense would stiffen in the 2nd half, holding Eagle Grove to just 8 points in the frame to take a 62-24 victory. Nadia Kaiser led the Eagles with 7 points and 7 rebounds, while Graclyn Eastman had 19 points for Bishop Garrigan.

The boys game followed as Eagle Grove aimed for their first season sweep of the Golden Bears since the early-2000s. However, Bishop Garrigan had much different plans, leading 18-6 after the first quarter, a lead that ballooned to 36-17 at halftime. The Eagle Grove offense struggled to get going in the 2nd half as the Eagles fell by a score of 67-40.

Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Monday, as they host Forest City in Top of Iowa Conference action at Eagle Grove Elementary School.
