Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball swept by Iowa Falls-Alden on the road

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, making the trip east into Hardin County as they took on the Cadets of Iowa Falls-Alden in North Central Conference action in Iowa Falls. The Cowgirls entered with a record of 2-7, while the Cowboys also entered at 2-7.

The Cowgirls got off to a fast start on Friday, leading 15-7  after the first quarter, but the IF-A defense became impenetrable in the 2nd and 3rd quarter, holding the Cowgirls to 2 points in each frame as they led 35-19 after 3. The CGD offense returned to life in the 4th quarter, but it was too little, too late as Iowa Falls-Alden won 48-35. Sawyer Morrical had a team-high 14 points with 10 rebounds.

CGD’s boys looked to bounce back following a tough loss to St. Edmond on Tuesday night, and got off to a good start, leading 14-9 after the first quarter. However, Iowa Falls-Alden’s offense came to life in the 2nd quarter, putting up 20 points to take a 29-24 halftime lead. The Cadets offense would not relent in the 3rd quarter, adding 23 more to lead 52-36, before closing out a 58-47 victory.
