Webster City girls fall to Algona at home, 61-39

The Webster City Lynx girls basketball teams returned to action on Friday night at Webster City High School, as they hosted the Algona Bulldogs in North Central Conference action. The Lynx entered with an 0-5 record, while Algona entered at 3-2.

Both sides started the game slow, before a quick spurt from the Bulldogs at the end of the frame gave Algona an 18-8 lead after one. The lead would only widen in the 2nd quarter, as hot three-point shooting from the Bulldogs made it 35-18 at the halftime break. The 2nd half was nearly a repeat of the first half, as a slow 3rd quarter had Algona up 44-26 headed into the final frame. Both offenses clicked in the 4th, but Algona’s comfortable margin allowed them to prevail with a 61-39 win.

Ava Peterson led Webster City with 11 points, while Algona was led by sophomore Lauren McLaughlin with 17 points. Lynx return to action on Tuesday night, when they travel to Fort Dodge to take St. Edmond in North Central Conference action.
