Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball falls at Iowa Falls-Alden and Garner-Hayfield-Ventura

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams saw a busy 2-day stretch with back-to-back road games against Iowa Falls-Alden on Friday night, and Garner-Hayfield-Ventura on Saturday night.

The girls game against the Cadets would start slow for the Cowgirls, as Iowa Falls-Alden led 23-10 after the 1st quarter. The Cadets would keep Clarion-Goldfield-Dows at arms length for the remainder of the contest as IF-A picked up a 63-39 win. CGD would then follow up against GHV with a spirited effort in the first half, only trailing 36-32 at the halftime break. Liz Ennis’s group would keep it close in the 3rd quarter, before the Cardinals pulled away in the 4th for a 63-49 win.

The CGD boys would struggle on the offensive end on Friday night against Iowa Falls-Alden, as Nevan Foss would be the Cowboys leading scorer with 14 points, the only double-digit scorer in the Cowboys 66-36 loss to the Cadets to drop to 2-1. Jason Berning’s squad would follow that up with a hard-nosed effort against GHV, who knocked the Cowboys out of the district final last season. Ultimately, CGD fell short in 58-55 overtime loss. Carson Nesheim led with 29 points, knocking down 7 three-pointers in a coming out party for the junior.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows returns to action on Tuesday, as they host Clear Lake at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School in Clarion.
