Webster City volleyball competes in Hampton-Dumont-CAL Tournament

The Webster City Lynx volleyball team made the northeast trek to Franklin County on Saturday to compete in the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Invitational at Hampton-Dumont-CAL High School in Hampton. The Lynx were joined by the hosts Bulldogs and conference foes Iowa Falls-Alden, as well as Ames, (2A) #13 Carroll Kuemper (4A) #14 Charles City, Grand View Christian, Independence, Janesville, Roland-Story, St. Edmond and South Hardin.

The Lynx opened their Saturday with a 2-1 loss to Carroll Kuemper by scores of 21-23, 21-15 and 15-5. Sierra Rattenborg racked up 7 kills, while Livia Kasch and Olivia Gallentine tallied 6 kills. Joslin Gourley finished with 20 assists while Fallon Casey had 9 assists. Webster City would then stumble against Iowa Falls-Alden 2-1, in sets of 18-21, 21-14 and 17-19. Fallon Casey would tally 14 assists, while Joslin Gourley, Olivia Gallentine, Reese Casey and Livia Kasch all contributed 5 kills.

Jess Howard’s squad would then turn it around against the Janesville Wildcats, with a 2-0 sweep in sets of 21-19 and 21-17. Fallon Casey finished with 9 assists, while Olivia Gallentine and Reese Casey led in kills with 3 a piece. Webster City would keep the positive momentum rolling with 2-0 sweep of Grand View Christian in sets of 21-16 and 21-19. Fallon Casey again had 11 assists, while Joslin Gourley tallied 9 assists and a team-high 6 kills, as Sierra Rattenborg had 5 kills.

Webster City would then receive their toughest test of the afternoon in (4A) #14 Charles City, but the Lynx would prevail 2-1 in sets of 19-21, 21-16 and 15-13. Sierra Rattenborg had a team high 7 kills, while Joslin Gourley and Fallon Casey had 13 assists each. Abby Gallentine finished with 6 kills as well. The Lynx would then see a rematch with Carroll Kuemper to cap off the day, and fell 2-0 by similar sets of 21-12. Olivia Gallentine finished with 5 kills, while Joslin Gourley had 6 assists in the loss.

The Lynx finished the day 3-3 and moved to 17-12 on the season. Webster City returns to action on Tuesday when they travel to Algona to take on Bishop Garrigan in non-conference action.
