CLARION, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls volleyball team returned to the court on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets in North Central Conference Pride Division action at CGD High School. The Cowgirls entered with a record of 11-11, while the Cadets entered at 10-11.
It w0uld be a rough opening set for CGD, as Iowa Falls collected 10 aces alone in the opening set to come away with a 25-9 victory. The Cowgirls would find their footing in the 2nd set, leading 21-17 at one juncture, before Iowa Falls rallied to score 8 of the last 9 points to win 25-22 and go ahead 2-0. The final set would go into extra rallies, but it would be the Cadets outlasting CGD in the final set by a score of 27-25 and winning 3-0.
The Ace of the Game, presented by Ace Hardware of Webster City, was CGD senior Ella Engstrom, who led the Cowgirls with 9 kills on Tuesday. Ella Finneran would tally 5 kills, a block and an ace in the match, while Adelynn Howell finished with 4 kills.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball returns to the court next Tuesday, when they travel to Belmond-Klemme to take on the Broncos and Nashua-Plainfield in a non-conference tri, beginning at 6 PM.
