WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx volleyball team returned to the court on Thursday Night, as they hosted the Forest City Indians and Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City entered at 10-7, Forest City entered at 4-11, while Garner-Hayfield-Ventura entered at 17-0 and ranked #15 in Class 2A.
Webster City opened with Forest City, as the opening set would be back-and-forth between the Lynx and Indians, as Webster City got a late run to take a 25-20 win. An 8-0 run midway through set 2 powered the Lynx to a 25-14 win and a 2-0 sweep.
Jaylyn Bahrenfuss led the Lynx with 6 kills and 2 blocks, Allison Arends had 5 kills and a block, while Evie Davis had kills and 3 blocks.
The final match of the night saw Webster City face off with undefeated GHV, as the opening set saw the Cardinals control much of it, but the Lynx hung around enough to strike late in the set and steal the opener 26-24. Set 2 saw Webster City control much of the match, with the Lynx up 24-22 and serving for the win, but GHV responded with their backs against the wall and won 28-26, before excelling in set 3 to win 15-7 and grab a 2-1 victory.
Evie Davis had a monster match of 4 kills and 11 blocks, while Avery Poppen had 7 kills and a block, while Alison Arends had 2 kills and 4 blocks. Davis received Ace of the Game honors, presented by Ace Hardware of Webster City, as she totaled 7 kills and 14 blocks across the 2 matches.
Webster City volleyball returns to action next Thursday, when they host the Charles City Comets in North Central Conference Tradition Division action at Webster City High School, with first serve at 7 PM.
