MASON CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx and South Hamilton Hawks cross country teams returned to the course on Tuesday night, as they made the trek to far northern Iowa to compete in the Riverhawk Invitational at Mason City High School. The Lynx and Hawks were joined by the host Riverhawks, as well as Algona, Ames, Belmond-Klemme, Des Moines Roosevelt, Emmetsburg, Fort Dodge, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Lake Mills, Newman Catholic and St. Edmond.
Webster City’s girls would place 5th in the team race with a total of 170 points, as senior Izzy Grossoehme secured a top 10 finish with a time of 21:27.2, as 8th-grader Lyla Brookshire was 21st in 22:25.3. Junior Ruby Andrade-Murillo was 40th in 23:55.5, McKenna Buakham was 49th in 24:27.6 and freshman Quynn Pruismann was 59th in 25:01.5.
South Hamilton’s girls would finish 12th with 320 points as junior Jillian Bentley placed 41st in 23:58.1, as senior Cici Herrick was 45th in 24:10.0. Senior Rosemary Chamness was 81st in 28:02.2, Lexi Mathes was 87th in 29:04.5, as Laurel Johnson was 90th in 29:26.0.
Webster City’s boys would place 8th with a total of 217 points, as junior Daniel Murillo Delfin was 23rd in a time of 18:27.7, while 8th grader Max Barrick was 46th in 19:16.6. Junior Kaleb Draeger was 48th in 19:22.5, Jordan Betts was 58th in 19:41.8 while Kade Kruger was 61st in 19:51.5.
South Hamilton’s boys were 9th with a total of 220 points, as senior Jesus Garcia finished in the top 5 by placing 5th in a time of 17:31.7, while senior Jackson Olmstead was 22nd in 18:24.1. Junior Jacob Lutjen was 55th in 19:36, John Sandgren was 77th in 21:06.6, as Kaden Greenlee was 82nd in 21:12.3.
Webster City cross country is back in action on Monday, when they travel to Algona to compete in the Algona Invitational at River Road Golf Course starting just before 5 PM. South Hamilton cross country returns to action on Monday when they compete at the Ogden Invitational at Don Williams Golf Course, beginning at just after 5:30 PM.
