CLARION, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls volleyball team returned to the court on Tuesday night as they hosted the Pocahontas Area Indians in non-conference action at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows High School. The Cowgirls entered at 10-9, while the Indians entered at 8-11.
Tuesday’s opening set would go back-and-forth to start, with it being a 1-point match past the halfway mark of the set, but CGD would find a late run to come away with a 25-18 win. Pocahontas Area kept pace right with the Cowgirls throughout set 2, as a couple of decisive plays late gave CGD a 25-21 set 2 win over the Indians, before the Cowgirls would run away with the third set 25-16 to cap a 3-0 victory.
The Ace of the Game, presented by Ace Hardware of Webster City, was CGD junior Ella Finneran, who led the Cowgirls with 10 kills and a block in the victory. Ella Engstrom finished with 8 kills and an ace, Blaire Askelsen had 4 kills, an ace and 3 blocks, while Kinlee Nail had 5 kills and 4 aces.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball returns to the court on Thursday, when they travel to Iowa Falls-Alden for an NCC quad with (3A) #1 Humboldt and Algona, beginning at 7 PM.
