FOREST CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowgirls volleyball teams returned to action on Saturday morning, as they made the trip to Winnebago County to compete in the Forest City Tournament at Forest City High School. The Lynx and Cowgirls were joined by the host Indians, as well as Central Springs, Clear Lake, Decorah and (2A) #14 Lake Mills.
Webster City would go 3-1 on the day, opening with a 2-1 win over Central Springs with sets of 11-21, 21-13 and 15-9. Jaylyn Bahrenfuss had 7 kills and 11 assists, as Avery Poppen added 6 kills, 2 blocks and an ace. The Lynx would then defeat a fellow 4A squad in Decorah 2-1 with sets of 15-21, 21-16 and 15-12, as Tristyn Wright led the Lynx with 6 kills and 3 blocks.
The Lynx then extracted some revenge on CGD, avenging an earlier season loss to the Cowgirls 2-0 with sets of 21-11 and 21-17. Evie Davis had 6 kills and 9 blocks in the match, as Tristyn Wright had 4 kills, 2 blocks and an ace. Webster City then fell to (2A) #14 Lake Mills 2-0 with sets of 11-21 and 16-21, Tristyn Wright finished with 6 kills, while Evie Davis had 4 kills and 4 blocks.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows would go 1-3 in the tournament, as the Cowgirls won their opening match with Forest City 2-1 with sets of 21-19, 17-21 and 15-11, Ella Finneran finished with 6 kills and 2 blocks, while Ella Engstrom had 5 kills and an ace. CGD then fell to Clear Lake 2-0 with sets of 17-21 and 16-21, Ella Engstrom had 4 kills and an ace in the match.
The Cowgirls then fell to Webster City 2-0 with sets of 11-21 and 17-21, before falling to Central Springs 2-0 with sets of 17-21 and 12-21. Ella Engstrom had 5 kills and 2 aces to lead the Cowgirls against the Panthers.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows volleyball returns to the court on Tuesday, when they host Pocahontas Area in non-conference action at CGD High School beginning at 7:30 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com. Webster City volleyball returns on Thursday, when they host Garner-Hayfield-Ventura and Forest City for a North Central Conference quad meet at Webster City High School, beginning at 5 PM on 95.7 KQWC or online at kqradio.com.
