DIKE, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen volleyball team returned to the court on Saturday morning, when they competed in the Dike-New Hartford Tournament at Dike-New Hartford High School. The Norse were joined by the host (3A) #6 Wolverines, as well as (3A) #7 Center Point-Urbana, (2A) #7 Denver, Dubuque Hempstead, (3A) #1 Humboldt, New Hampton, (1A) #6 North Tama, Osage, Pleasantville, (2A) #10 Sumner-Fredericksburg and (3A) #11 Van Meter.
Roland-Story opened the day with a 2-0 sweep of New Hampton by sets of 21-13 and 21-17, as Brookelyn Jondle had 9 kills, while Riley Johnson had 6 kills. The Norse followed with a 2-0 sweep of (2A) #10 Sumner-Fredericksburg, as the Norse won with sets of 21-13 and 21-10, as Maddi Lucas had 5 kills and 2 blocks, while Miley Geise had 4 kills, 12 assists and 3 aces.
The Norse suffered their first setback of the day with a 2-0 loss to (3A) #7 Center Point-Urbana by sets of 20-22 and 15-21, as Brookelyn Jondle had 10 kills and 2 blocks in the match. A bounce back victory over (3A) #11 Van Meter followed by sets of 14-25, 25-22 and 15-13, as Brookleyn Jondle had a monstrous match of 17 kills, while Maddi Lucas had 9 kills, a block and an ace.
Roland-Story would take on (3A) #1 Humboldt in the tournament semifinals, and fall short in a hotly-contested match by sets of 25-23, 17-25 and 16-14. Brookelyn Jondle had 15 kills, 1 block and 3 aces, while Maddi Lucas added 10 kills and 3 blocks in the match.
Roland-Story volleyball returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Des Moines to face the Grand View Christian Thunder in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Grand View Christian Activities Center, beginning at 6:30 PM.
