EAGLE GROVE, Ia. — The Eagle Grove Eagles football team returned to the field on Friday night, as they hosted the South Hardin Tigers in Class 1A, District 3 action for homecoming at Gene Hinrichsen Field. Eagle Grove entered at 2-1, while South Hardin entered at 3-0 and ranked #2 in Class 1A.
South Hardin would march down on their opening drive, but were stuffed on 4th down inside the 5-yard line to give Eagle Grove the football. The Eagles could not muster much against a speedy South Hardin defense, punting it back with South Hardin marching and scoring on a 2-yard touchdown run by Manning Pfantz to put the Tigers ahead 7-0. Eagle Grove would turn it over on downs, as the Tigers went to the air connected on a 31-yard touchdown pass from Braylon Weig to Josh Spindler to put the Tigers up 14-0 after the first quarter. South Hardin would score twice in the 2nd quarter on a 10-yard touchdown pass to Casey Williamson and a 45-yard touchdown pass to Casey Williamson to put the Tigers ahead 28-0 at halftime.
The 2nd half would be rather quiet, as the Tigers would score a touchdown in the 3rd quarter on a 13-yard touchdown pass to Casey Williamson, before scoring in the 4th quarter on 7-yard touchdown pass to Josh Spindler as South Hardin capped a 42-0 victory.
Trenton Robinson led the Eagles with 26 yards on the ground on Friday, as the Eagle Grove defense did have some big plays defensively, totaling 10 TFL as a team, with Tyler Alesch, Arturo Reyna Salazar, Dylan Terwilliger and Christian Schild all recording 2 or more TFL.
Eagle Grove football returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Manly to take on the Central Springs Panthers in Class 1A, District 3 action with kickoff at 7 PM.
