CLARION, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys football team returned to the field on Friday night, as they hosted the Central Springs Panthers in Class 1A, District 3 action for homecoming at Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Middle School. The Cowboys entered with a record of 2-1, while Central Springs entered at 1-2.
Central Springs punted on their opening drive to start the game, as CGD would score on their 2nd play from scrimmage on a 56-yard touchdown run by Reed Campbell as the Cowboys took a 6-0 lead, as that lasted through the end of the first quarter. Central Springs would score on a 29-yard touchdown pass from Eddie Pruin to Cole Hagen as the Panthers took a 7-6 lead. CGD would answer midway through the 2nd quarter on a 37-yard touchdown run from Charlie Campbell as the Cowboys went back up 14-7, but Central Springs scored on a Lincoln Levan 1-yard touchdown run to cut the score to 14-13. The Cowboys drove quickly before the end of the half as JD Morrical threw a jump ball to Huxley Lingenfelter, who caught it and scampered 18 yards for a touchdown to give the Cowboys a 21-13 halftime lead.
Both teams traded punts to start the 2nd half, as Charlie Campbell took the lid off the half with a 35-yard touchdown run to put the Cowboys ahead 28-13. Maxton Downing would pick off a Central Springs pass on the ensuing drive, setting up a 13-yard touchdown pass from JD Morrical to Paxton Lingenfelter as the Cowboys took a 34-13 lead. A big kickoff return by the Panthers set up 3-yard touchdown run by Lincoln Levan to cut the score to 34-19. CGD would score one more time in the 3rd quarter on a 1-yard run by Easton Beyer to put the Cowboys up 41-19. In the 4th quarter, Central Springs scored on a 12-yard touchdown pass from Eddie Pruin to Emerick Eggers to bring the score to 41-25, as CGD would score on a 5-yard touchdown run from Reed Campbell to cap a 48-25 victory.
The Cowboys would roll up 289 yards rushing on Friday, as Charlie Campbell carried 6 times for 81 yards and 2 touchdowns, while Reed Campbell carried 8 times for 73 yards and 2 scores. JD Morrical would go 4-for-7 for 70 yards and 2 touchdowns, as Huxley Lingenfelter caught 2 passes for 52 yards and a score, while registering 6.5 tackles and 2.5 TFL.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows football returns to action on Friday Night, when they travel to Grundy Center to take on the Spartans in Class 1A, District 3 action at Spartan Stadium, with kickoff at 7 PM.
