It was an evening of celebration, recognition and anticipation as members and friends of Webster City Community Theatre gathered Sunday, Sept. 13, for the organization’s Annual Meeting and Potluck.
The evening offered a chance to celebrate the people and productions that made the past season memorable while also looking ahead to WCCT’s 59th season of live theatre.
President Lindsay Henderson called the meeting to order and highlighted several accomplishments from the past year, including the installation of new stage lighting, the launch of the Over the Speed Limit Players senior theatre group and the addition of “Unity,” a new sculpture at the theatre that is now part of the Webster City Arts R Alive Sculpture Walk.
A highlight of the annual meeting was the presentation of the Willing Worker Awards, which recognize individuals who made significant behind-the-scenes contributions to WCCT productions during the past season.
Ann McLaughlin, director of The Café Mocha Murders, presented her award to assistant director Sally Evans. McLaughlin also spoke on behalf of 12 Angry Jurors director John Marvel, who selected his assistant director, Anne Blankenship, for the honor.
Loween Getter reflected on the inaugural production of the Over the Speed Limit Players, Fiddler on the Roof Sr., and presented the Willing Worker Award to the show’s music director, Dane Barner. Henderson, director of Disney’s The Little Mermaid Jr., recognized technical director Sam Ose with her Willing Worker Award.
Henderson also presented the President’s Award to Carol Zills in recognition of her longtime contributions to WCCT. Zills has lent her artistic talents to countless productions over the years as a scenic designer and painter, helping transform the WCCT stage into everything from homes and businesses to entirely new worlds.
WCCT members also elected officers and board members for the coming year. Anne Blankenship was elected president, with Angela Rottering serving as vice president; Loween Getter, secretary; Dale Arends, treasurer; and Lindsay Henderson, past president.
Board members include Katie Hildal, Molly Gallentine and Kelly Anderson, with Abby Heckert serving as the organization’s youth representative.
With a successful season celebrated and new leadership in place, attention turned to what’s next at WCCT — and audiences won’t have to wait long.
The theatre’s 59th season opens Friday with The Birthday Club. Director Mary Sealine shared a preview of the comedy and invited those attending to come enjoy the show.
The season continues with The Roommate, directed by Anne Blankenship; Roald Dahl’s Matilda the Musical Jr., directed by Nichole Ose; 37 Postcards, directed by Sally Evans; and concludes with Come From Away, directed by Loween Getter.
