JEWELL, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks football team plays their second home contest in a row on Friday Night, as they host the Southeast Valley Jaguars a Highway 175 non-district battle at Bill Taylor Field. South Hamilton enters the contest with a record of 1-1, while Southeast Valley enters at 2-0. Southeast Valley leads the all-time series 1-0, winning last year’s meeting 54-6, but South Hamilton leads the all-time series against the former Prairie Valley of Gowrie, 19-14-1.
Southeast Valley enters Friday’s contest with two wins, both of which are over foes who were ranked in Class 1A, as Manson-Northwest Webster was #7 in the Jaguars 20-6 win, as Emmetsburg was #9 in the Jaguars 33-6 victory. Southeast Valley continues to employ a 2-quarterback system, as senior Casey Hanson presents a dual-threat, throwing for 192 yards and 3 touchdowns, while rushing for 186 yards and 2 scores, while Mason Bahr has thrown for 122 yards and a touchdown, while rushing for 58 yards and a score. Logan Jaeschke has been the Jaguars top target, catching 7 balls for 119 yards and 3 touchdowns, while senior Bryce Harrison caught 6 balls for 102 yards and a touchdown. Freshman Wyatt Muench is the primary running back, rushing for 70 yards and a score, as the Jaguars posses a veteran offensive line, led by senior Clay Lambert, as well as juniors Colton Haug and Deegan Brandel.
Defensively, the Jaguars are led by a strong linebacking core, as junior Deegan Brandel has a team-high 11 tackles, 2.5 TFL, 1.5 sacks and an interception, while senior Clay Lambert has 10 tackles and 1.5 TFL. The defensive backfield is also veteran, as senior Logan Jaeschke leads the unit with 10 tackles, 1.5 TFL and a sack, while Casey Hanson has an interception in addition to 5 tackles. The defensive line is a younger unit, as juniors Colton Haug and Josh Martens lead the unit with 4.5 tackles each.
South Hamilton will look to build off their 52-0 shutout of Panorama in Week 2, as the Hawks rolled up over 400 yards rushing, including over 200 yards from junior Wyatt Gelder. The Hawks look to have junior Ben Swenson back to anchor the offensive line, and provide a dynamic game-breaker on the defensive side to slow down the Jaguars balanced attack.
Kickoff is slated for 7 PM at Bill Taylor Field on Friday Night.
