ESTHERVILLE, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys football team returns to the gridiron on Friday Night, as they make the trip to the Iowa Great Lakes Region to take on the Estherville-Lincoln Central Midgets in non-district action at Estherville-Lincoln Central High School. CGD enters Friday with a record of 1-1, while ELC enters at 0-2. Estherville leads the all-time series 9-4, but CGD won the 2025 matchup in Clarion, 26-14.
Estherville-Lincoln Central enters Friday at 0-2 with a one possession loss to Emmetsburg in their season-opener, followed by a blowout loss to Cherokee Washington 40-14. The Midgets offense is directed by junior quarterback Will Rosfjord, who’s thrown for 205 yards and 3 touchdowns, while rushing for another. Rosfjord’s top target has been senior receiver Amari Armstrong, who’s caught 8 passes for 148 yards and a touchdown, while fellow senior Blake Arends has caught 6 balls for 109 yards and a touchdown. Breidyn Coulter is the primary ballcarrier for the Midgets, rushing for 110 yards through the first 2 games, as thick offensive line is led by the likes of sophomore Frank Perdomo, junior Keegen Lundgren and senior Osiel Castro.
Defensively, ELC is led by a strong linebacking core, as senior Breidyn Coulter leads the Midgets with 15.5 tackles, while junior Garrett Smith has 14 tackles, as senior Blake Arends and Kyle Danner complete the starting unit. Amari Armstrong leads the secondary with 12 total tackles, as sophomore Drew Sheda has added 6.5 tackles. The defensive line is finding it’s footing, as sophomore Frank Perdomo has 6 tackles, 2 TFL and a sack, while Osiel Castro has added 4 tackles.
CGD will look to shake off a tough 35-13 loss to Hampton-Dumont-CAL on Friday, as the Cowboys will look to find more consistency on offense after 5 turnovers doomed CGD in Week 2. The Cowboy defense will look to tighten things up in the front seven after allowing over 300 yards rushing to HD-CAL.
