Jewell- With just under two weeks to go before the start of the new school year, the South Hamilton Community School Board Monday evening previewed the upcoming year ahead with the start of classes on August 24th. Back to school night is set for Thursday, August 20th from 5:00 until 7:00 p.m. There will be a chance to meet the athletes as they prepare for the new sports season. New teachers at South Hamilton will begin their work with in-service activities.
The South Hamilton School board learned that the auxiliary gym is progressing including work to connect water and gas. Inspections for the kitchen, generators and sprinklers have been updated.
All South Hamilton School handbooks for students and staff were approved by the school board along with the updated Emergency Operations Plan as presented. A one-year Jewell Golf Course Facilities Agreement was approved to use the course for the golf program and cross country meets this season. The daily substitute teaching rates for $150 per day was approved.
In personnel matters, the South Hamilton board accepted resignations from Robin Hovig from the kitchen staff,Landon Davidson as an Elementary Associate and Doug Sogard as 7th and8th grade assistant Football Coach. The board accepted the hirings of Brittany Schroeder, Deborah Gordon and Kirstie Hassebrock as Special Education Paraeducators, Sara Utrera as an Elementary Kitchen Manager, Stephanie Mills as 7 to 12th grade Kitchen Manager, Kim Caudle for Elementary Food Service, Shannon Schaffer as Custodian, Trevor Thompson as 7th and 8th grade football coach, Nolan Bakke as 7th and 8th grade assistant football coach, Sierra Opperman as 7th and 8th grade Volleyball coach, Mark Billerbeck as a Volunteer Football Coach, Cory Klemp as a volunteer 7/8 football coach, Autumn Schott as a volunteer dance coach and Stephanie Vierkandt as Volunteer Dance Coach.
The South Hamiton board has announced that there will be no late starts starting in the 2026-27 school year. There will be Monday professional development days throughout the school year ahead when school will not be in session. The dates are October 5th, November 2nd, January 4th, February 1st, March 1st and April 5th.
