Rockwell City- The Calhoun County Sheriff’s Office on Wednesday filed criminal complaints against 21-year-old Jaxyn Stone Blum of Rockwell City with Murder in the First Degree for the death of Kyle Rath and with attempted murder to Roger King. The charges stem from an incident last April 12th at 9:02 p.m. at the intersection of 290th Street and Harris Avenue in rural Calhoun County in which a pickup truck struck a utility terrain vehicle (UTV) operated by Kyle Rath with Roger King as a passenger. Rath died of his injuries at the accident scene with King transported to a Des Moines hospital for treatment of serious injuries. Murder in the First Degree is punishable by life imprisonment. Attempted murder is punishable by a term of imprisonment not to exceed 25 years. Assisting the Calhoun County Sheriff’s Department in the investigation are the Iowa State Patrol, the Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation, the Iowa DNR Law Enforcement Bureau,Manson Police and the Calhoun County Attorney’s Office. The charges against Blum will be prosecuted by the Calhoun County Attorney’s Office. Murder in the First Degree is a class A felony and Attempted Murder is described as a class B felony.
