South Hamilton baseball’s season ends against Ogden, 2-1

OGDEN, Ia. — The South Hamilton Hawks baseball team returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip into Boone County to take on the Ogden Bulldogs in Class 2A, Substate 2 first round action at Ogden High School. South Hamilton entered with a record of 1-19, while Ogden entered with a record of 12-17.

It would be a scoreless first inning, but South Hamilton’s bats came to life in the 2nd with an Oliver Hetland RBI single to put the Hawks ahead 1-0 in the 2nd inning. Ogden responded with 2 runs in the 3rd off a Keagan Ristvedt RBI single and a wild pitch to take a 2-1 lead, and that’s all the offense that was needed for the contest as the pitchers duel resulted in a 2-1 win for Ogden.

Garrett Johnson took the loss on the mound despite his best pitching performance of the season, going 6 innings and allowing 2 runs (0 earned) on 4 hits and striking out 5. Oliver Hetland went 1-for-3 with an RBI single, while Johnson and Liam Ealy each recorded 2 hits.

Ogden advances to face Interstate 35 in the Class 2A, Substate 2 quarterfinals on Tuesday at Norsemen Field in Story City at 5 PM. South Hamilton’s season ends with a record of 1-20.
