Webster City baseball dominates NCC doubleheader with Hampton-Dumont-CAL

HAMPTON, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx baseball team returned to action on Monday evening, as they made the trip east into Franklin County to take on the Hampton-Dumont-CAL Bulldogs in North Central Conference action at Hampton-Dumont-CAL High School. Webster City entered at 16-8, while HD-CAL entered at 6-15.

Webster City struck first in Game 1 on a Matt Tesdahl RBI single to take a 1-0 lead, before the Lynx blew the game wide-open in the 2nd inning with a 12-run inning with an RBI groundout from Jaxon Griffith, a 2-run RBI double from Matt Tesdahl, a 2-run error, a 2-run RBI single from Boston Farley, another 2-run error, a Jaxon Griffith RBI single and a Matt Tesdahl 2-run RBI single to put the Lynx ahead 13-0. HD-CAL answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the 2nd to make the score 13-4, before Webster City answered with 7 runs in the 3rd off a Syrus Willard sac fly, back-to-back bases-loaded walks, a Matt Tesdahl bases-clearing double and a Kaleb Hansen RBI double to make it 20-4. HD-CAL added 2 more runs in the 3rd, before Webster City poured on 6 more runs in the 4th on a Braylon Dyvig 2-run RBI double, an Aiden Hrnicek RBI single, a bases-loaded walk and an Eian Becker 2-run RBI single, as the Lynx clinched a 26-6 victory.

Braylon Dyvig was the winning pitcher, going 3 innings and allowing 6 runs (4 earned) on 5 hits and striking out 5. Matt Tesdahl had a career-night, going 4-for-5 with 2 doubles and a school record 9 RBI, as Braylon Dyvig went 2-for-2 with a double and 3 RBI.

Game 2 followed as Webster City, again, took care of business early, plating 3 runs off a Matt Tesdahl RBI double and a Carter Mickelson 2-run RBI single to put the Lynx up 3-0. Webster City then added 2 more runs in the 2nd on a Braylon Dyvig RBI double and a Carter Mickelson RBI double to go ahead 5-0. The Lynx then added 3 more runs in the 4th on a Carter Mickelson 2-run RBI single and a Boston Farley RBI single, before a Carter Mickelson RBI single and a Braylon Dyvig steal of home ended things in a 10-0, 5-inning victory for Webster City.

Matt Tesdahl picked up the win on the mound, pitching a 2-hit shutout with 7 strikeouts, while also going 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI. Carter Mickelson would go 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and 7 RBI, while Braylon Dyvig was 3-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Webster City baseball returns to action on Wednesday, as they host the Forest City Indians in non-conference action at Webster City High School, with first pitch at 7:30 PM on AM 1570/FM 99.1 KZWC or online at kqradio.com.
