Roland-Story softball wins extra-inning thriller with West Marshall, 1-0

ROLAND, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Wednesday night, as they hosted the West Marshall Trojans in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Bill Hennessy Field. Roland-Story entered with a record of 15-5, as West Marshall entered at 15-8.

Wednesday’s contest would be very similar to the Norsemen’s Tuesday night win over East Marshall, as a pitchers duel ruled the entirety of contest, with the score at 0-0 going into the 8th inning. After vanquishing the West Marshall threat in the top of the 8th, Roland-Story was able to load the bases in the 8th, as freshman Ali Johnson delivered for the 2nd night in a row, driving in the winning run on an infield RBI single as Roland-Story upended the Trojans by a score of 1-0 in 8 innings.

Junior Miley Geise pitched the best game of her Norsemen career to date, going all 8 innings and allowing no runs on 3 hits, with a career-high 14 strikeouts. Brookelyn Jondle would go 4-for-4 on the day with 2 doubles, as Ali Johnson was 2-for-4 with the game-winning RBI.

Roland-Story softball returns to action on Thursday night, as they host (2A) #1 Grand View Christian in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Bill Hennessy Field, with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
