ROLAND, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Wednesday night, as they hosted the Perry Jayettes in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Bill Hennessy Field. Roland-Story entered with a record of 9-4, while Perry entered at 1-14.
Roland-Story started the scoring in the first, putting up 2 runs on a Cece Doyle RBI single and a Miley Geise RBI double to take a 2-0 lead, as Perry cut it to 1 in the 3rd at 2-1. The Norsemen added onto their lead in the 4th on an Ali Johnson RBI triple and an Evelyn Carlson sac fly to make it 4-1, but Perry brought it back to a 2-run game in the 5th at 4-2. Roland-Story added 2 more runs back in the 5th on a Brookelyn Jondle RBI single and a Lauren Crabbs RBI single, before putting up 2 more runs in the 6th on a Jenna Birkland RBI groundout and a Keely Oberender RBI groundout as Roland-Story capped an 8-2 victory.
Cece Doyle picked up the win in the circle, going 4 innings and allowing 1 run on 3 hits and striking out 3. Miley Geise would go 4-for-4 with 2 doubles and an RBI, while Ali Johnson went 2-for-3 with a triple and an RBI.
Roland-Story softball returns to action on Friday, when they take on the Humboldt Wildcats and Clarinda Cardinals in the opening day of the Kiwanis Tournament, with action beginning at 11 AM.
