Webster City softball continues hot streak with NCC win at Humboldt, 9-5

HUMBOLDT, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx softball team returned to action on Monday night, as they made the trip into Humboldt County to take on the Humboldt Wildcats in North Central Conference action at Humboldt High School. Webster City entered with a record of 7-7, while Humboldt entered at 5-8.

Humboldt was first on the board with 2 runs in the first, but Webster City answered in the 2nd with 2 runs off a Briley VanDeer RBI ground out and a Haydin Sealine RBI single to tie the game at 2-2. The Lynx took the lead in the 3rd on a Morgan Tempel sac fly to take a 3-2 lead, as Humboldt rebuffed in the bottom half with 2 runs as the Wildcats led 4-3 after three. Webster City tied the game in the 4th on a Haydin Sealine RBI ground out, before the Lynx took the lead in the 5th on a wild pitch and an error to go ahead 6-4. Webster City added more insurance runs in the 7th with a Briley VanDeer RBI double, an Izzy Weinschenk RBI single and a Hayden McCoy RBI single to put the Lynx ahead 9-4, before closing out a 9-5 win.

Jakaela Cherry was the winning pitcher, allowing 5 runs (4 earned) on 11 hits and striking out 3, as Briley VanDeer went 2-for-4 with a double, 2 RBI and a run scored, while Haydin Sealine went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
