Stanhope City Council approves 28-E agreement with Hamilton County Sheriff’s office at June 9th meeting.

Stanhope- During their June 9th meeting, the Stanhope City Council voted to approve a 28-E agreement with the Hamilton County Sheriffs Department for law enforcement services. The agreement is to include daytime coverage because the 28E agreement with Ellsworth Jewell Stanhope (EJS) Police expires at the end of this month on June 30th,2026. The agreement passed by a vote of 3 to 1 by the Stanhope City Council with council member Jill Haman voting no. Stanhope City Clerk Jori Young stated to the council that she had spoken with Stanhope City Attorney Zach  Chizek and the property owners of the Elliott Building. The work has been completed . The notice to Abate with the Hamilton County Court House has been satisfied. The public made comment that the work looks nice and was completed quickly, once demolition started. Clerk Young shared that Stanhope Librarian Dee Malmquist obtained some of the bricks from the Stanhope Bank building that was demolished and a planter was built at the Stanhope City Hall. Watermelon Seeds have been planted there.

Testing will be conducted on the new Tornado Siren for Stanhope since the siren and mechanism for it arrived recently. Repairs have been done to the restrooms in the Stanhope City Park . Discussion on ordering more sand and rock for the Stanhope Ball Diamon resulted in city council member Beau Jensen taking ownership for getting this work done. There was a discussion on an audit on Stanhope’s Water and Sewer rates in order to raise rates in the future.
