PERRY, Ia. — The Roland-Story Norsemen softball team returned to action on Wednesday evening, as they made the trip into Dallas County to take on the Perry Jayettes in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Perry High School. Roland-Story entered Wednesday at 0-1, while Perry entered at 0-3.
Perry was first on the board with an RBI double in the first to take a 1-0 lead, but Roland-Story responded with an offensive barrage in the 2nd, scoring 6 runs on a Lauren Crabbs RBI single, a Jayette error, a Klaire Krausman RBI groundout, an Ali Johnson RBI single, an Evelyn Carlson RBI double and a Keely Oberender RBI groundout to take a 6-1 lead. The Norsemen bats got hot again in the 4th, as Keely Oberender cranked a 3-run home run to center field to put the Norsemen up 9-1. Perry responded with 2 runs in the bottom of the 4th to make it 9-3, but an Ali Johnson RBI single in the 5th extended the lead to 10-3. The Norsemen put the finishing touched on things in the 6th with Keely Oberender’s 2nd home run of the day and a Klaire Krausman RBI double to cap the Norse’s 12-3, 6-inning victory.
Cece Doyle picked up the win in the circle, pitching 3.2 innings and allowing 3 runs on 5 hits and striking out 3. Keely Oberender had a monstrous night at the plate, going 2-for-4 with 2 home runs and 5 RBI, while Ali Johnson went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI.
Roland-Story softball returns to action on Friday, when they host the South Hamilton Hawks in Heart of Iowa Conference action at the Hennessy Diamonds with first pitch at 7:30 PM.
