Webster City boys soccer downs Central Iowa United in Class 2A, Substate 2 opener, 4-2

WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx boys soccer team returned to action on Monday afternoon, as they hosted the Central Iowa United Trojans in Class 2A, Substate 2 first round action at Lynx Field. Webster City entered at 9-2-3, while Central Iowa United entered at 2-13-1.

The first 20 minutes of half #1 would be scoreless despite numerous opportunities from the Lynx, but Webster City finally broke through on a Franky Bernal goal in the 24th minute to put the Lynx ahead 1-0. Webster City would add on to the lead soon thereafter as David Villelas scored off an initial save to put the Lynx ahead 2-0, before Villelas scored off another deflection in the 35th minute as Webster City took a commanding 3-0 lead. Central Iowa United would score before half off a Gage Byal goal in the 37th minute to make the score 3-1 at halftime.

Similar to the first half, the first 20 minutes of the second half was scoreless until Dany Morales found the back of the net in the 62nd minute to put Webster City ahead 4-1. Central Iowa United would score a late garbage time goal to bring the final to 4-2.

Webster City boys soccer returns to action next Wednesday, when they travel to Belmond to face (2A) #7 Wright County in Class 2A, Substate 2 semifinal action at Belmond-Klemme High School, with kickoff at 7 PM.
