Webster City baseball shuts out Clarion-Goldfield-Dows in Game 1, Game 2 suspended due to lightning

CLARION, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys baseball teams opened their 2026 seasons on Monday afternoon, as the two programs faced on another in a North Central Conference doubleheader at CGD High School.

Webster City got things rolling early in Game 1, as 3 runs came across on a Syrus Willard RBI single, a wild pitch and a Kaleb Hansen RBI groundout as the Lynx led 3-0 after 1. After adding a run by an error in the 2nd inning, Webster City opened the flood gates in the 4th with a Carter Mickleson 2-run RBI single and a Kaleb Hansen 2-run RBI double to put the Lynx ahead 8-0. Webster City followed by putting up 7 more runs in the 5th with runs of two wild pitches, an error, and a Matt Tesdahl inside-the-park 3-run home run to put Webster City ahead 15-0. The Lynx would retire the side in order in the 5th to cap the 15-0 victory.

Matt Tesdahl was the winning pitcher, throwing 4.2 innings of hitless ball in a combined no-hitter, with 1 walk and 10 strikeouts, as Carter Mickleson combined to complete the no-no. Tesdahl also went 1-for-3 with the inside-the-park home run, as Kaleb Hansen went 2-for-3 with a double and 3 RBI. Caleb Sweeney was charged with the loss for CGD, pitching 3 innings and allowing 4 runs (3 earned) on 6 hits and striking out 2.

Game 2 saw a better start for CGD, as Huxley Lingenfelter drove in Tristen Kakacek on an RBI single to put the Cowboys up 1-0. That 1-0 lead lasted until the bottom of the 3rd, when the Lynx put up 4 runs off an error, a wild pitch and a Boston Farley 2-run RBI double as the Lynx took a 4-1 lead. Webster City then doubled their total in the bottom of the 4th with a Jaxon Griffith 2-run inside-the-park home run, a Syrus Willard RBI ground out and a Carter Mickelson RBI ground out to put the Lynx up 8-1. CGD would score a run on a wild pitch in the top of the 5th to make it 8-2, before lightning would cause a delay and eventual suspension of the game.

The remainder of Monday’s game will be played on Wednesday, prior to the JV doubleheader between Webster City and CGD at Webster City High School.
