GARNER, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx boys soccer team returned to action on Thursday evening, as they made the trip up Highway 69 to take on the Garner-Hayfield-Ventura Cardinals in North Central Conference action at GHV High School. Webster City entered at 9-2-2, while GHV entered at 7-5-2.
Webster City would strike quickly in the first half, the first on a goal in the 16th minute by David Villelas off a Franky Bernal assist to put the Lynx ahead 1-0. Just minutes later, it was Jesus Gael Mendoza Ruiz scoring in the 19th minute, off an Abasai Ramirez-Carmona assist to put the Lynx ahead 2-0. However, GHV would score right before the halftime buzzer to cut the score to 2-1.
Defenses would dominate much of the 2nd half, but GHV was able to sneak behind the Webster City defense for a goal in the 72nd minute as the Cardinals salvaged at 2-2 tie against the Lynx.
Webster City boys soccer returns to action on Monday, when they host the Central Iowa United Trojans in their Class 2A, Substate 2 first round match at Lynx Field, with kickoff at 7 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
