Iowa Central Community College will hold its 59th annual Commencement on Friday, May 8, 2026.
Commencement ceremonies will take place at 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. in Hodges Fieldhouse on the Iowa Central campus in Fort Dodge.
Graduates earning High School Equivalency Diplomas (HSED), Certificates, Diplomas, and Associate of Applied Science, Associate of Applied Arts, and Associate of Professional Studies degrees will participate in the 10 a.m. ceremony. Graduates earning Associate of General Studies, Associate of Science, Associate of Arts, Practical Nursing, and Associate Degree Nursing will graduate at the 2 p.m. ceremony.
A milestone will be celebrated during this year’s commencement, as the first class of Veterinary Technician students graduates after completing Iowa Central’s two-year program. This marks a significant step forward in meeting regional workforce needs in animal care and agriculture.
This year’s featured speaker is Sessions Harlan, who will address graduates and guests with reflections and encouragement as students transition into their next chapter. From the basketball court to a lifetime of service, Harlan has built a legacy of leadership and impact. A two-time All-Region player at Iowa Central and All-Conference athlete at Weber State, he competed at the highest levels of collegiate athletics. He went on to serve 30 years with the Denver Police Department, including time on the SWAT team and as a Detective Sergeant. Along the way, he provided security for major organizations and served as a bodyguard for Muhammad Ali. A respected leader and mentor, he continues to make a positive impact in his community today.
Student speakers will represent the Class of 2026 with remarks reflecting on their Iowa Central experience and offering inspiration to fellow graduates.
Also recognized during commencement will be the recipients of the Golden Triton Award. The Golden Triton Award is presented annually to one faculty member and one staff member in recognition of outstanding service to Iowa Central students. Recipients are nominated by current students. This year’s faculty recipient is Andrew Wells, Associate Professor in the Business Department. The staff recipient for 2026 is Hunter George, Academic Advisor.
Parents, relatives, and friends are warmly invited to attend the commencement ceremonies. Seating is available in Hodges Fieldhouse, with doors opening at 9:00 a.m. for the 10:00 a.m. ceremony and 1:00 p.m. for the 2:00 p.m. ceremony. Overflow seating with a livestream of the ceremonies will be available in Decker Auditorium. A reception will follow both ceremonies in the Iowa Central Courtyard, which was recently remodeled in 2025.
