Webster City girls and boys track both place 2nd at Don Howard Invite

BOONE, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx girls and boys track and field teams returned to action on Thursday afternoon, as they made the short trip to Boone to compete in the annual Don Howard Invite at Goeppinger Field. The Lynx were joined by the host Toreadors, as well as Des Moines Lincoln, Ogden, Perry and Saydel.

Webster City’s boys placed 2nd with 154 points, as the Lynx crowned a number of champions. Junior Zack Lahr won the shot put with a lifetime-best throw of 47′ 10.75″, as the Lynx sprint medley won in a time of 1:36.07 with the team of Griffith-Hansen-Stroner-Callahan. Aidan Wardell would win the 3200m run in a time of 11:14.24, as the Lynx then won the distance medley in a time o f 3:41.19 with the team of Griffith-Hansen-Stroner-Callahan. Jack Barner would win the 1600m run in a time of 4:58.15, as the Lynx capped the meet with a win in the 4×400 in a time of 3:27.29 with the team of Stroner-Murillo-Hansen-Callahan.

Webster City’s girls also placed 2nd with 130 points, as they crowned a handful of winners. Tessa Hansen would win the long jump with a mark of 15′ 8″, as Izzy Grossoehme followed by winning the 100m dash in a season-best time of 13.18 seconds. Webster City then won the 4×200 in a time of 1:49.12 with the team of Hartnett-Weinschenk-Hansen-Grossoehme, as Briley VanDeer followed by winning the 100m hurdles in a season-best time of 17.01 seconds. Izzy Grossoehme would capture her 3rd win of the night in 200m dash in a season-best time of 26.48 seconds, as Webster City capped the meet with a win in the 4×100 in a time of 52.30 with the team of Hartnett-Weinschenk-Wright-Grossoehme.

Webster City girls track returns to action on Monday, as they travel to Iowa Falls-Alden for the Cadet Relays, beginning at 5 PM. Webster City boys track returns to action on Thursday, when they compete in the North Central Conference meet at Algona, beginning at 4:30 PM.
