WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx boys soccer team returned to action on Thursday night, as they hosted the Humboldt Wildcats in a pivotal North Central Conference match at Lynx Field. Webster City entered at 4-1-2, as Humboldt entered at 3-2-2.
Webster City got off to a fantastic start on Thursday, as junior David Villelas got the match off the ground with a goal in the 9th minute to put the Lynx ahead 1-0. Villelas then triggered the Lynx’s second goal assisting with a pass to Francisco Revolorio Guinac, who scored in the 17th minute to give the Lynx a 2-0 lead that held till halftime.
In the 2nd half, Humboldt had an answer as their star Nico Christensen scored in the 46th minute to cut the deficit to 2-1. Webster City would have a response as Abasai Ramirez-Carmona would convert on a penalty kick in the 65th minute to give the Lynx some insurance at 3-1. Nico Christensen would score again for Humboldt in the 70th minute to cut the score to 3-2, but the Lynx defense held for the final 10 minutes to give the Lynx a 3-2 victory.
Webster City boys soccer returns to action on Monday, when they travel to Belmond for a pivotal battle with Wright County, with kickoff coming at 5:30 PM.
