Webster City basketball drops NCC home doubleheader with St. Edmond

WEBSTER CITY, Ia. — The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned action on Friday, as they hosted the St. Edmond Gaels in North Central Conference action at Webster City High School. The Lynx girls entered at 5-6, while the Lynx boys entered at 2-6.

Webster City’s girls would best close early, trailing just 12-11 after the first quarter, before St. Edmond gained some separation in the 2nd quarter to take a 25-19 halftime lead. Defenses would rule the 2nd half, as the Gaels offense got footing in the 4th quarter and would be the difference in a 43-30 loss for the Lynx.

Evie Davis led Webster City with 7 points, 10 rebounds and 2 blocks, while Alivia Burns and Tristyn Wright each finished with 6 points. Sophia Schlienz and Chloe Palmer led the Gaels with 12 points each.

The boys game followed as the Lynx faced a tall task in the #1 team in Class 1A in St. Edmond, as the Gaels would come out with a hard-fought 54-35 victory. Webster City was led by Coyce Bertran with 12 points, while Alex Staley had 7 points.

Webster City boys basketball returns to action on Monday night, when they host the North Polk Comets in non-conference action at Webster City High School at 7:30 PM. Webster City girls basketball returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Hampton to take on Hampton-Dumont-CAL in NCC action with tipoff at 6 PM on AM 1570 KZWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
