CLARION, Ia. — The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball teams returned to action on Saturday morning, as they hosted the Charles City Comets in non-conference action at CGD High School. The Cowgirls entered at 0-11, while the Cowboys entered at 7-2.
CGD would go down just 8-5 after the first quarter, but Charles City would add on to the lead at halftime with the score at 18-8. The 3rd quarter remained relatively even, before the Comets would keep the Cowgirls at bay for a 34-20 win.
CGD stats were not available on Bound as of Monday morning.
The Cowboys followed as they would gain separation late in the first quarter, leading the Comets 17-9 after the frame, before exploding for 34 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 51-18 halftime lead. Charles City offense would find rhythm in the 3rd quarter, but the Cowboys outscored the Comets 21-17 to take a 72-35 lead into the 4th and coast to a 85-48 victory.
Junior Chaz Lane recorded another double-double of 21 points and 13 rebounds, while Huxley Lingenfelter had 19 points and 7 rebounds. JD Morrical added 14 points, 5 rebounds and 6 assists.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball returns to action on Monday night, as they host the Belmond-Klemme Broncos in non-conference action at CGD High School, with tipoff at 6 PM.
