The Roland-Story Norsemen baseball team returned to action on Thursday, as they made the trip into Dallas County to take on the Perry Bluejays in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Perry High School. Roland-Story entered at 19-9, while Perry entered at 3-20.
Roland-Story started quickly in the 1st, scoring runs on a passed ball and a Braden Wallace RBI fielder’s choice to put the Norsemen ahead 2-0. After Perry responded to tie the game at 2-2 in the bottom of the first, Roland-Story added 4 runs off a Cael Faber RBI groundout and a William Zamzow 3-run homer to take a 6-2 lead. That lead continued the grow in the 3rd with a Braden Wallace solo home run and an Aiden Frey RBI single, followed by a 4-run 4th with a Chance Georgious RBI double, a Jake Knoll bases-loaded walk an a 2-run RBI single from Aiden Frey to put the Norsemen ahead 12-2. Perry kept the game going in the 5th with an RBI fielder’s choice, but Roland-Story poured on 6 more runs in the 6th to cap an 18-3, 6-inning victory.
Chance Georgious would go 2-for-4 with 2 doubles and 3 RBI, Aiden Frey went 3-for-3 with 3 RBI, as William Zamzow went 1-for-2 with a 3-run home run. Colin Willis picked up the win, allowing 3 runs on 9 hits and striking out 6.
Game 2 saw Roland-Story waste no time in opening things up, as the Norsemen put up 7 runs in the 1st off a Cael Faber sac bunt, an error, a Chance Georgious RBI groundout, a Cooper Triggs RBI double, a Gavin Jeter RBI triple and an Aiden Frey RBI single to take a 7-0 lead. The Norsemen wouldn’t score again until the 4th, putting up 5 runs behind a Hudson McLatchie steal of home, a Ryan Kepley RBI double, a Cooper Triggs RBI single, a passed ball and a Gavin Jeter RBI single to put Roland-Story ahead 12-0. Perry put up a run in the bottom of the 4th, but the Norsemen would clinch a 12-1, 5-inning victory.
Cooper Triggs went 2-for-3 with a double and 2 RBI, while Gavin Jeter went 2-for-3 with 2 RBI and a triple. Ryan Kepley picked up the win, pitching 5 innings and allowing 1 run on 6 hits and striking out 7.
Roland-Story baseball returns to action on Tuesday, as they travel to Van Meter to open their Class 2A, Substate 7 bracket against Garner-Hayfield-Ventura with first pitch at 5 PM on 95.7 KQWC or streaming online at kqradio.com.
