South Hamilton track and field competes at Ballard Co-Ed

The South Hamilton Hawks boys and girls track and field teams returned to action on Thursday, as they made the drive down Highway 69 to Huxley to compete in the Ballard Co-Ed Meet at Ballard High School. The Hawks were joined by the host Bombers, as well as Bondurant-Farrar, Carlisle, Des Moines Christian, Grinnell, Iowa Falls-Alden, Pella Christian, South Hardin and West Marshall.

South Hamilton’s boys would place 7th with 58 points on Thursday, as the Hawks claimed 3 victories in the meet. The first came in the sprint medley, as the Hawks won in a time of 1:34.84 with the team of Severseike-Young-Twedt-Hodnefield, a time that currently sits #4 in Iowa all-classes. Kolby Hodnefield would follow with a win in the 100m dash in a time of 11.05 seconds, before winning the 400m dash in a season-best time of 49.76 seconds. The 4×400 would place 2nd in a time of 3:46.15 with the team of Severseike-Young-Gelder-Twedt, while the distance medley also placed 2nd in a time of 3:53.32 with the team of Severseike-Gelder-Twedt-Hill. Kolby Hodnefield also placed 2nd in the 200m dash in a season-best time of 22.47, while Titus Herrick placed 5th in the discus with a throw of 120′ 1″. Braden Young would place 6th in the 100m dash in a time of 11.59, while also placing 8th in the 200m dash in 23.96. Wyatt Gelder placed 7th in the 400m dash in a time of 56.91.

The Hawks girls would also place 7th with 50 points on Thursday, as Tessa Skartvedt had the highest individual finish in the shot put, tallying a best throw of 36′ 9″. The Hawks distance medley placed 2nd in a time of 4:48.24 with the team of Van De Pol-Scheller-Chamness-Beaune. Stella Martensen would place 3rd in the high jump, clearing 4′ 10″, while Isabel Swenson placed 4th in the high jump by also clearing 4′ 10″. Olive Beaune would place 3rd in the 800m run in a time of 2:46.46, while Caitlin Bare placed 3rd in the 3000m run in a time of 12:53.17. The sprint medley would place 4th in a time of 2:04.84 with the team of Flaugh-Lammers-Doolittle-Herrick, while the 4×400 also placed 4th in a time of 4:34.37 with the team of Beaune-Herrick-Chamness-Doolittle. Cici Herrick placed 5th in the 400m run in a time of 1:06.17, while Claire Hewitt was 5th in the long jump with a mark of 14′ 4.5″.

South Hamilton track and field returns to action on Tuesday when they compete at the Gilbert Co-Ed Meet at Gilbert High School.
