South Hamilton, Roland-Story boys track compete in annual Hawk Relays

The South Hamilton Hawks and Roland-Story Norsemen track teams returned to action on Thursday afternoon, as South Hamilton hosted their annual Hawk Relays at Bill Taylor Field in Jewell. The Hawks and Norsemen were joined by Des Moines Christian, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Iowa Falls-Alden, North Polk and St. Edmond.

Roland-Story would place 4th in the meet, despite not winning an event on the evening. The Norsemen picked up 2nd place finishes in the shuttle hurdle in a time of 1:04.63 with the team of Berggren-Barber-Crank-Strum, before Jake Berggren placed 2nd in the 110m High Hurdles in a time of 16.09 seconds, Jayden Strum would also place 3rd in 16.12 seconds. Roland-Story’s 4×100 would place 2nd in a time of 45.53 with the team of Mazyck-McIlrath-Berggren-S. Knollm while their 4×200 also placed 2nd in 1:40.73 with the team of Spainhower-Mazyck-Thoreson-Crabbs. Fiston Carlson also placed 3rd in the 100m Dash in a time of 11.76.

South Hamilton would place 5th as a team, with their first win coming in the sprint medley with a time of 1:39.61 behind the team of Severseike-Drake-Hodnefield-Ricke. The Hawks then went 1-2 in the 400m Dash, as Ty Koehnk won in a time of 51.96, while Kolby Hodnefield was 2nd in a time of 52.73. Following senior day festivities, the Hawks would win the 4×200 in a time of 1:34.82 with the team of Hodnefield-Severseike-Ricke-Koehnk. Ty Koehnk would win his 3rd event of the day by winning the 200m dash in a time of 23.22, before the Hawks closed out the meet by winning the 4×400 in a time of 3:32.70 with the team of Koehnk-Ricke-Severseike-Hodnefield. Other notable results saw Noah Gunderson place 2nd in the 100m dash in a time of 11.74, while the distance medley placed 2nd in a time of 3:54.72 with the team of Severseike-Ricke-Drake-Coburn. Titus Herrick saw a career day in the discus as well, placing 3rd with a throw of 116′ 10″, while Davien Henderson was 5th with a toss of 112′ 2″.

Roland-Story would place 4th with 105.5 points, while South Hamilton was 5th with 104 points. Hampton-Dumont-CAL was the team champion with 122.5 points. South Hamilton boys track returns to action on Monday, when they compete at the Bengal Relays in Gilbert. Roland-Story boys return to action on Monday when they compete at North Polk.
