Eagle Grove wrestling competes in Bob Roethler Invitational in Emmetsburg

The Eagle Grove Eagles wrestling team returned to action on Saturday morning, as they made the drive into northwest Iowa to compete in the annual Bob Roethler Invitational at Emmetsburg High School. The Eagles were joined by the host E-Hawks, as well as Central Lyon/George-Little Rock, Estherville-Lincoln Central, Forest City, GTRA, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Lake Mills, Mason City, Okoboji, Pocahontas Area, Spencer, Spirit Lake-Park, St. Edmond, Storm Lake, West Bend-Mallard and West Hancock.

Eagle Grove’s top placer was 126-pounder Mack Morgan, who would lose his championship match to GTRA’s Caleb Sweedin in a 3rd-period fall, but finished the day 2-1. Hayden Schafer would place 3rd at 150 lbs, winning his 3rd place match over ELC’s Bennett Duitsman. Connor Christopher would place 4th, losing his 3rd place match to Spencer’s Wyatt Heying in an 8-2 decision.

Other placers included Dylan Terwilliger placing 6th at 113 lbs, Jesus Baez placing 6th at 285 lbs, Cooper Thacker placing 7th at 132 lbs, and Leelan Spencer placing 8th at 138 lbs.

Eagle Grove wrestling returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Manson-Northwest Webster for a quad-dual with the Cougars, West Bend-Mallard and West Central Valley.
