The Webster City Lynx softball team made the trip north into Cerro Gordo County on Thursday night, to take on the Mason City Riverhawks in Class 4A, Region 5 action at Mason City High School. The Lynx entered at 17-15, while the Riverhawks entered at 14-15.
Mason City would jump on the board early off an Avery Fiser run to take a 1-0 lead after the first inning. The Riverhawks would then pickup big insurance runs off Adyson Evans 2-run home run in the bottom of the 3rd to take a 3-0 lead. From there, Evans shutdown the Webster City attack, en route to a 3-0 win.
Delainey Bargfrede did her best to keep the Lynx season alive, pitching 6 innings, allowing 3 runs on 4 hits and striking out 12, while also going 2-for-3 at the plate. Adyson Evans pitched a complete game, 5-hit shutout and struck out 7 batters, as well as going 2-for-2 with that 2-run home run for Mason City.
Webster City’s season comes to an end with a record of 17-16, while Mason City advances to take on Gilbert in the Class 4A, Region 3 semifinal at Gilbert High School.
