Webster City baseball falls in opener to (4A) #2 Ankeny Centennial, 9-0

The Webster City Lynx baseball team opened their 2023 season in a special place on Monday night, at Historic Walt Anderson Field in Rippey, as the Lynx took on the 2nd-ranked team in Class 4A, the Ankeny Centennial Jaguars.

The game got off to a slow start for both sides, as starters Joey Oakie and Keegan Hisler traded scoreless innings for the first 3 innings, before the Jaguars scratched across a run in the 4th inning as Emerson Alberhasky drove in a run on an RBI triple to make it 1-0. The 5th inning is where Ankeny Centennial would get to the Lynx arms, as Webster City allowed 5 runs in the 5th, before yielding 3 more runs in the 6th to trail 9-0.

Ankeny Centennial’s pitching staff would do their part in shutting down the Lynx bats, as Oakie and Emerson Alberhasky, who entered in relief in the 5th, struck out a combined 18 Webster City batters on the night, en route to the 9-0 win. Webster City returns to action on Tuesday night, as they travel to Wright County to take on Eagle Grove at 7:30 PM.
