Eagle Grove, Clarion-Goldfield-Dows track teams compete in districts at Osage

The Eagle Grove Eagles and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows track teams made the trip north and east on Thursday afternoon, to compete in their Class 2A, District 5 State Qualifying Meet at Osage High School in Osage. The Eagles and Cowboys were joined by the host Green Devils, as well as Belmond-Klemme, Crestwood, Denver, Forest City, Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, Lake Mills, North Fayette Valley, New Hampton and Sumner-Fredricksburg.

Eagle Grove would see a handful of state qualifiers, as Addyson Jeske qualified in the girls long jump, with a mark of 16′ 6″ and placing 2nd. Cayden Schultz would then pick up an automatic bid in the 200m dash, placing 2nd in a time of 23.08, while finishing 3rd in the 100m dash in 11.37, putting him on the fringe of an at-large bid in that event. Ayden Feske also placed 3rd in the girls 100m dash, putting her on the fringe of at-large bid as well.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows day would be highlighted by individual performances, as Mason Allen began the day in the boys discus, winning with a personal-best throw of 171′ 1″, breaking his own school record. Mikayla Beisel would then qualify in the first of four events for the sophomore, placing 2nd in the high jump, clearing 5′ 0″. Next qualifier would be the shuttle hurdle team, which won in a time of 1:10.25 with the quartet of Beisel-C. Hasty-M. Hasty-Trca. Beisel would then go on to place 2nd in the 100m hurdles in a time of 16.02, and 2nd in the 400m hurdles in 1:09.35, to clinch a full slate at the state track meet for the sophomore.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys would place in a tie for 9th with 33.5 points with GHV, while Eagle Grove placed 12th with 29 points. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows girls would place 6th with 58 points, while Eagle Grove’s girls placed 10th with 20 points. Denver was the boys team champion, while New Hampton was the girls team champion.
