The South Hamilton Hawks and Roland-Story Norsemen track teams entered their first outdoor action of the season on Monday night, as they competed at a Roland-Story Co-Ed Quad Meet at South Hamilton High School. The meet was hosted by the Hawks as Kerry Van Winkle Field is undergoing extensive renovations. The Hawks and Norsemen were joined by Iowa Falls-Alden, Hampton-Dumont-CAL and Gilbert.
South Hamilton saw a handful of winners on Monday night, as Carter Balvanz won the boys discus with a toss of 129′ 7″, a new PR, as Ashlyn Erickson won the girls 400-meter dash in a time of 1:03.51. The Hawks would pick up a relay win in the boys 4×400 relay, winning in a time of 3:36.76 with the team of Ty Koehnk-Reece Ricke-Nick Severseike-Kolby Hodnefield, the time tentatively sits at #3 in Class 1A, trailing Mount Ayr and Lawton-Bronson.
Roland-Story picked up a handful of winners as well on Monday night, as the lone boys winner was Kale Lande in the 400-meter dash in a time of 51.82. The Norsemen girls picked up a plethora of winners, as Selah Helgeson won the 100-meter hurdles in a time of 17.29, while Laurel Osborn won the girls long jump with a mark of 14′ 3″. Roland-Story’s girls would win 4 relay events, as the quartet of Adalyn Sporleder-Kennedy Petersen-Kamryn Lande-Lauryn Kilstofte combined to win the sprint medley, 4×100 and 4×200. The team of Caitlyn Flattebo-Carly Halsted-Jaclyn Gessner-Selah Helgeson combined to win the shuttle hurdle relay in a time of 1:17.58.
South Hamilton’s girls would place 3rd with 75 points, while Roland-Story’s girls placed 4th with 73 points. Roland-Story’s boys placed 3rd with 70.75 points, while South Hamilton placed 5th with 52 points.
