The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Perry Bluejays in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School in Story City. The Norsemen girls entered with a 3-1 record ranked 14th in Class 3A, while the Roland-Story boys entered with a 3-0 record and ranked #2 in Class 2A.
Roland-Story’s girls would get off to a slow start against a stingy Perry team, with the Bluejays holding a 10-9 lead at the end of the first quarter. Madi Gelber’s squad would scrap and claw back to take a 23-21 halftime lead. The 3rd quarter saw the Norsemen offense erupt, outscoring the Bluejays a whopping 30-8, to give Roland-Story a 53-29 lead after the 3rd quarter. The Norsemen would then cruise in the 4th quarter to a 61-38 win. Sophomore Alyssa Jones led Roland-Story with 18 points on the night.
The boys game followed with the 2nd-ranked Norsemen boys coming off a key HOIC victory over Nevada on Tuesday night, and Darrin Berggren’s squad continued their high-level play. The Norsemen would jump out to a 25-11 lead after the first, before matching that first quarter total in the second, leading 50-20 at the halftime break. The Norsemen continued to suffocate the Bluejays in the 2nd half, outscoring them 32-17 in the 2nd half en route to an 82-37 win. All 5 Roland-Story starters scored in double figures with Ben Greenfield leading the charge with 17 points, while Luke Patton recorded a double-double with 10 points and 22 rebounds.
Roland-Story returns to action on Tuesday night, when they host Saydel in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School.
