The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball team made the trip north to Algona on Friday night, to take on the Golden Bears of Bishop Garrigan at Bishop Garrigan High School in Top of Iowa West Conference action. The Eagle Grove girls entered with a record of 0-4, while the Eagle Grove boys entered with a record of 1-3.
Eagle Grove’s girls were faced with the daunting task of facing the top-ranked team in Class 1A in the Golden Bears, led by Iowa State-commit Audi Crooks, a consensus Top-50 recruit in the Class of 2023. The Golden Bears wasted no time in jumping all over the Eagles, leading 32-6 after the first quarter, extending the lead to 59-13 at halftime. Bishop Garrigan would keep the foot on the gas in the 3rd quarter, leading 78-15 at the end of frame, before calling off the dogs in the fourth for an 86-22 win. Audi Crooks led the Golden Bears with 22 points and 12 rebounds, Nadia Kaiser led Eagle Grove with 10 points.
Eagle Grove’s boys the followed with a game against Bishop Garrigan that would go right down to the wire, as both teams battled back and forth deep into the 4th quarter. However, timely buckets from Bishop Garrigan and missed opportunities from the Eagles allowed Bishop Garrigan to take a 64-61 win. Drake Canavan led the Eagles with 26 points, while Drew Fogarty led Bishop Garrigan with 15 points.
Eagle Grove returns to action on Tuesday night, when they host Lake Mills at Eagle Grove Elementary School.
