Roland-Story champion wrestler charged with felony assault

Roland-Story two-time wrestling state champion Kade Blume was charged with Class C Felony Assault earlier this week for an incident that occurred on New Year’s Day 2022 and will be tried as a adult.

According to WHO-TV and Iowa Online Court Records, Blume is charged specifically for “Assault – Penetration of Genitalia or Anus with Object”. A press release states that Blume, who is 17, stripped the victim of their clothes and penetrated their anus with a pencil.

WHO-TV reports that authorities have said that multiple wrestlers were apart of the hazing and that a second person is being charged in juvenile court.

KQWC has reached out to the Roland-Story School District for comment on the matter and received the following statement from Superintendent Matt Patton on Wednesday night:

“Our district administration continues to cooperate with local police as they conduct their investigation. Because the alleged incident did not occur on school property or at a school event, it is a law enforcement matter.

The district is considering appropriate disciplinary action for the students allegedly involved in this incident. Due to our legal obligation to protect student confidentiality, we cannot publicly share details about what this action will be. Please know that we take this matter very seriously.

We will continue to work with local law enforcement as needed. In the meantime, our focus will be on our students and avoiding any unnecessary disruptions to the learning process.”
