Iowa women host Samford on Thursday night

The #9 Iowa women return to action tonight as they host the Samford Bulldogs at Carver-Hawkeye Arena. Lisa Bluder’s Hawkeyes opened the regular season with a 93-50 win over the New Hampshire Wildcats.

Superstar Caitlin Clark scored 26 points, as well as grabbing 8 rebounds and 6 assists against the Wildcats, displaying her one-of-a-kind shooting ability. Monika Czinano and McKenna Warnock, All-Big Ten selections for the Hawkeyes a season ago, tallied 14 points and 12 points respectively on Tuesday night.

The Samford Bulldogs make the trip north from Birmingham into Big Ten country for their first game action this season. The Bulldogs finished 14-11 in 2020-21 as regular season champions of the Southern Conference, and were knocked out of the first round of the WNIT by Ole Miss. The Bulldogs are led by junior guard Andrea Cournoyer, who averaged 18.4 points per game a season ago. Samford returns all five starters from last season’s squad.

Tipoff is scheduled for 6:30 PM from Carver-Hawkeye Arena.
