Webster City hammers #4 Fort Dodge, 41-14

Webster City and Fort Dodge renewed a rivalry that hadn’t played since 1965 on Friday night, as the Lynx and the Dodgers got together at Lynx Field for both teams district opener. Fort Dodge came into Friday ranked #6 in the Radio Iowa poll, while Webster City was 2-2.

The Dodgers started out of the gate lightning quick, as Javion Jondle took the first play of the game 67 yards for a touchdown off a Connor Carver pass to put Fort Dodge up 7-0. The Lynx wouldn’t put together a scoring drive until the 2nd quarter, when Jaxon Cherry barreled in from 1-yard out to tie the score at 7. Webster City would strike again soon thereafter, as Connor Hanson turned a sensational 15-yard run into a touchdown to put the Lynx up 14-7.

Bob Howard then went to his bag of tricks, as a reverse pass saw Devon Stoakes launch a bomb to Evan Estlund for a 49-yard touchdown to put the Lynx up 21-7. Fort Dodge would get a touchdown on a 20-yard pass as time expired in the first half to send the score 21-14 going into halftime.

The 3rd quarter had no scoring action and little in the way of big plays, outside of Webster City stopping Fort Dodge on their 2nd fake punt of the night. The Lynx did score on the 1st play of the 4th quarter off a 5-yard touchdown pass from Ty McKinney to Devon Stoakes to put the Lynx up 27-14. Webster City continued to bleed the clock, and punched in a 2-yard touchdown run from Ty McKinney to put the Lynx ahead 34-14. Keegan Hisler topped the night off with a pick six to give the final score of 41-14.

The Lynx start district play 1-0 and will face LeMars on Friday. Fort Dodge falls to 0-1 in district play and will face Spencer on Friday.
