Jewell- The South Hamilton Community School Board on Monday evening discussed conference options and a process of change with its current membership with the Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference. South Hamilton is currently the smallest school district in the Heart of Iowa Conference (HOIAC) and the only Class 1A school, while all other conference members compete at the Class 2A level. This enrollment difference can create competitive challenges for our student-athletes, particularly in activities where participation numbers and program depth have a significant impact. South Hamilton is one of the oldest members of the conference which is marking its 60th anniversary in 2026. South Hamilton Activities Director Trever Ryen reviewed with the board the advantages and disadvantages of changing conference affiliation and shared data gathered on the available options. Monday’s discussion was exploratory in nature. The intention of the discussion was to consider what conference alignment may best serve the students of South Hamilton for athletics and programs. No action was taken during the discussion.
South Hamilton’s Fiscal Year 2026 financial presentation indicated a strong financial position with revenues of over $9.7 million and expenditures of over $9.6 million.
