South Hamilton School Board to meet in a session this Monday evening, October 12th.

Jewell- The South Hamilton Community School Board will address the issue of school conference affiliation when they meet again this Monday evening at 6 p.m. at the junior /senior high school board room in Jewell. South Hamilton is currently the smallest school district in the Heart of Iowa Conference (HOIAC) and the only Class 1A school, while all other conference members compete at the Class 2A level. This enrollment difference can create competitive challenges for our student-athletes, particularly in activities where participation numbers and program depth have a significant impact. The Board will discuss South Hamilton’s current conference affiliation and whether it may be appropriate to explore potential realignment opportunities with conferences that include schools more comparable to South Hamilton in enrollment and competitive classification. This discussion is exploratory in nature and is intended to consider what conference alignment may best serve our students and programs in the future,

The South Hamilton board will review its financial health report for the Fiscal Year 2026 this Monday. There will also be the consideration for the purchase of a van for the school district. Board polices on changes to disruptive behavior and religious expression. In other matters, the board will look at personnel matters and enter into a closed session to consider a consent expulsion agreement. South Hamilton superintendent Heather Holm will present her report at this Monday’s board meeting plus other matters that may come before the school board.
